  3. I had heard so much about the Taj Mahal, but it didn't really prepare me for when I saw it. So solid, yet ethereal at the same time. Magnificent.

  4. I think part of the reason why I found the Taj Mahal so beautiful was because it was not so crowded and, consequently, felt less touristy. We had checked out of our hotel in Jaipur the day before, drove to Agra, enjoyed a delicious dinner and checked into a comfortable hotel nearby for the night. A good meal and a good night's sleep does wonders for one's mindset. Our driver picked us up from the hotel early morning and we got to see the Taj while it was serene and the temperatures were still cool. After a calm morning there, we spent midday exploring and eating in Agra. Late afternoon, we returned to view the Taj from a different perspective, along the gardens across the Yamuna river, seeing the other side of the monument. Apparently, every evening there's great bird watching from this particular spot. It was a beautiful way to experience the Taj Mahal. It's no fun being herded through touristy crowds.
